You will likely find that the carpet beneath your furniture has suffered from the weight of the furniture. You might also notice a newer color in the carpet.
There are many ways to get rid of dents on carpets, but it is important to not further damage carpet.
- You should move the furniture frequently. Carpet dents can be avoided by preventing them from happening in the first place. You should move your furniture around every few months to ensure that the dents don't become permanent. If the indention isn't left for a long time, carpet will rebound.
- Make your feet larger. Spreading the furniture's weight over a greater area can help to prevent dents. You can place furniture disks under your feet or heavier pieces of wood underneath the feet to help spread the weight. This will make the dents less noticeable and easier to repair. This is a good idea for beds and couches where the feet are not visible. The discs wouldn't look right at home on tables or chairs.
- Cold. If the dent has already set, you can place an ice cube inside the dent. Let it melt for at least two hours. After soaking up any excess water, use a towel to dry the carpet and then fluff it up with a spoon. When fluffing the carpet, be careful not to damage it. Don't forget to water the carpet with ice.
- Heat. If cold doesn't work, heat the dent. You can iron the dent with a damp towel or heat the dent using a hot blow dryer. The steam will loosen the fiber. Use a spoon to fluff your carpet, just as with the ice. You should not use a hot iron on the carpet. Also, don't hold the blow dryer too close to the carpet. Be careful not to tear the carpet fibers when fluffing it.
Sometimes, professional steam cleaning or carpet repair can be the only way to make the dent rise again. The carpet's color may also be affected by dirt and fading. Professional cleaning is required to make it look like new.
